4.48 Psychosis

James Watson and Famous last words takes on the complex theatre behemoth that is Sarah Kane's 4.48 Psychosis. A deep dive into mental health, depression, love and prescription drugs told through a queer lense.

Miss Julie
(After Strindberg)

2023
Goodwood Theatre, Adelaide

A play directed and adapted by NIDA graduate James Watson, reinterpreting the classic August Strindberg play Miss Julie. This modern take was filled with loud energetic music to fit the drug addled tone of the play, juxtaposed with softer melodic piano tracks to accompany the titular character's emotional arch.

Speaking in Tongues

2023
Stirling Players, Stirling

Written by Andrew Lovell and directed by Geoff Britain for the Stirling Players, Speaking in Tongues is a complex play about the relationships between many different people and how their lives intertwine. The musical motif composed was used in a way to weave the story elements together and create a sense of tension.

Home Thoughts

2022
Bakehouse Theatre, Adelaide

Home Thoughts is a story of two sisters. When these sisters find themselves torn between remaining in the past and an uncertain future, they need to seriously question what “Home” means to them. An original play from James Watson (‘Triumph of Man’, ‘Empty Vanity’) filled with tough decisions, millennial anguish, and fruchocs. The Music followed the emotional arch of both sisters, playing with the difference in the characters and how their stories converge then ultimately split ways.

Written by James Watson and Directed by Mary Angley, The Triumph of Man is a gripping satirical political drama, set in a caricatured dystopian dictatorship. The music explored the juxtaposition of life in the plays dictator state nation, the propaganda, the underground rebellions, and the showboating showmanship of the plays antagonist.
